{"id":5543,"date":"2024-01-14T03:46:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-14T11:46:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/handweavingacademy.com\/?p=5543"},"modified":"2024-01-12T08:47:15","modified_gmt":"2024-01-12T16:47:15","slug":"weaving-resolutions-and-some-alternatives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/handweavingacademy.com\/weaving-resolutions-and-some-alternatives\/","title":{"rendered":"Weaving Resolutions &#8211; and some alternatives"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I have just returned from a family trip, and while I was <s>avoiding the mountain of laundry that needs to be washed<\/s> getting back into my routines, I spent some time browsing through the Academy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I noticed that in each members\u2019 profile, there is a section titled \u201cweaving goals\u201d. This piqued my curiosity so I started browsing through members\u2019 goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/my.handweavingacademy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/markus-winkler-LNzuOK1GxRU-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-129049\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>These ones, and variations of these, are the most common:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Weave more<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use up my stash<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be a better weaver<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn something new<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enjoy the process<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>If you read about setting goals, and achieving them, an often cited piece of advice is \u201cSet specific goals\u201d. So here are a few that are shared by a fair number of our members:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Weave fabric for *insert item of clothing*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn to minimize errors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn to manipulate treadling\/tie ups to make interesting cloth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use new fibres<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use multiple shafts on my RH loom<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Get comfortable with weaving terminology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improve my selvedges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn to understand sett<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Learn to warp efficiently and correctly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Earn a Master Weaver certification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>I really enjoyed reading the goals of others, but these two were hands down my favourites:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Keep learning until I cannot weave any more<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Weave until I die<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Now I personally avoid making New Year&#8217;s Resolutions, because my ADHD brain will absolutely torpedo anything that I set as firm goals, and I will give up within days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/my.handweavingacademy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/annie-spratt-399PPQ9ROlo-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-129047\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>My goals from last year were to complete 2 units in my OHS Master weaver course per year. I have done NONE in 2023.&nbsp; Life has given me some big changes and challenges in the last year, so I am not going to fuss much about not meeting my goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, instead of setting goals, I am setting intentions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, I INTEND to weave more. More things that challenge me. More things that I WANT to weave. More things that will teach me new things about the art that I love. And most of all, I intend to weave more often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I feel like these intentions are achievable for me. If I said \u201cI want to weave 5 hours a week\u201d, the weeks when my family schedule interferes would feel like failure. I don\u2019t like failing, and when I feel like I am going to fail, I sometimes preemptively just give up (I tell myself I am not failing, I am choosing not to continue.) So I think setting intentions rather than specific goals will work better for me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What helps you move forward with your weaving?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you prefer to have resolutions, goals, or intentions?
