{"id":6725,"date":"2024-08-11T05:56:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-11T12:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/handweavingacademy.com\/?p=6725"},"modified":"2024-08-12T11:01:13","modified_gmt":"2024-08-12T18:01:13","slug":"make-your-weaving-glow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/handweavingacademy.com\/make-your-weaving-glow\/","title":{"rendered":"Make your weaving glow!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Did you know that you can make your weaving glow?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By using color patterns that are light in the center, but taper off into darkness at the sides, you can give the impression of a glowing object.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this draft, the center of the stripe looks like a glowing tube radiating light into a dark background:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/my.handweavingacademy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/image-9-1011x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-203135\" style=\"width:500px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You can intensify the feeling of glow with \u201cdouble glow\u201d (glow in both warp and weft).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the draft below, I\u2019ve added a second set of glowing stripes in the weft, which creates a more intense glow where the stripes cross. I call this design \u201cFull Moon on a Frosty Night\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/my.handweavingacademy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/image-10-1011x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-203137\" style=\"width:500px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>That isn\u2019t all you can do with glow, though. When you combine glow with woven pattern, magical things can happen!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is an 8-shaft draft, a diamond pattern:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/my.handweavingacademy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/image-11-1004x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-203139\" style=\"width:500px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>With a single set of stripes, you can create glowing motifs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/my.handweavingacademy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/image-12-1002x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-203141\" style=\"width:500px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>But when you add double glow, magic happens!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/my.handweavingacademy.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/image-13-1002x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-203143\" style=\"width:500px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The glowing stripes create intense \u201cstars\u201d where light stripes cross light stripes, and make the woven pattern appear where light stripes cross dark stripes. The results can be spectacular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also get radically different results simply by moving the location of the glowing stripes in the woven pattern. Here are two more designs that use exactly the same draft, and the same glowing stripe design, but with the glowing stripes in different locations.
